Below are listed a few handy catch phrases that do well to define some of our “home” values.  We anchor ourselves in these values as the basis for PERCIEVING as well as PERFORMING God’s Word:

  • No creed but Christ; no book but the Bible. 
  • Dependent upon God’s Word; independent of denominational ties
  • We exert authority from NT Scripture; we assert conformity by OT Picture
  • In essentials: unity.  In non-essentials: liberty.  In all things: charity (love).

  • Let us speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent
  • Let us call Bible things by Bible names and do Bible things in Bible ways.
  • Let us interpret every OT Picture by the light of the NT Scripture.
  • Let’s restore the church as it was in the days of the apostles.

We take pride in these values!  These catch phrases belong to us!  The appraisals made from God’s Word based on these principles have led us straight to Christ every time.  Such rules and protocols roughly define our Christian heritage as part of the restoration movement in America of independent churches of Christ who seek to place God’s Word, the Bible, as the only rule and guide.

We have a congregational form of church government that is unique from many religious organizations: we have autonomy of the local church—the local church is free from state, national, and international church organizations, but subject completely to the Christ and His Word.

While these catch phrases are cutsie, and most of us like to have things wrapped tight in a box with a bow, I am equally aware that complexities exist both in scripture and in application.  Life is challenging.  all of us here in the church of Christ at Sioux Center think that the best way to meet these difficulties is together.... i know... i asked...  so get over here and enjoy a true balance of life.
